Isn’t Censorship Wonderful?

Posted by drpezz on November 11, 2008

An editorial in a Spokane newspaper details how having censorship in schools helps ease our minds. Read this satirical look at a recent school board’s voting here for the newspaper link or click here for the PDF (satire-and-censorship).

In this day and age I just don’t understand censorship, especially when it comes to literature. I recognize the need for age appropriateness, but limiting a student’s access only increases the curiosity. When I tell my students that every major work we read in our American LIterature courses has been banned at one time or another, they are shocked. My advice:

Go read a banned book!
